THE PENNSYLVANIA ASSOCIATION OF STAFF NURSES AND ALLIED PROFESSIONALS, REPRESENTING MORE THAN 11,000 FRONTLINE HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA, ON THE DEATH OF ICU NURSE ALEX PRETTI

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA – The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP) was deeply disturbed and profoundly saddened to learn of the death of Alex Pretti, RN, an ICU nurse, at the hands of an act of violence in Minneapolis this weekend.

Our hearts go out to his family, his colleagues, and his community, which has long relied on him for life-saving care. And we join the many nurses, nursing organizations, frontline healthcare professionals, and healthcare unions in calling for an independent and transparent investigation into his senseless death and the shocking violence surrounding it.

The ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses declares, in Provision 8.2, that where there are human rights violations, nurses ought to and must stand up for those rights and demand accountability. Nurses—and all community members—must be free to stand up and speak out without facing violence or death.

PASNAP is committed to using our collective voice and the moral authority of our healing mission to call for accountability for violence in our communities and to secure the protection of the public and healthcare workers, so urgently needed.
