Our Story

Our Mission

The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP) is an independent labor union proudly representing nurses and allied health professionals across Pennsylvania. Founded on May 24, 2000, in Conshohocken, we emerged from local groups seeking a more militant, member-driven organization focused on bedside caregivers. Our mission is to advocate for safe staffing ratios, universal healthcare access, and protections against workplace violence and harassment, recognizing that better work environments lead to superior patient care. As the state's fastest-growing union in our sector, we empower members to secure strong contracts that enhance conditions and care quality.

Our History of Bold Advocacy

Our history is defined by bold advocacy and growth, building on bargaining units organized decades ago. We've led landmark strikes, including the 2010 month-long action at Temple University Hospital against a "gag rule" on critiquing patient care, and the 23-day strike in 2003—one of Pennsylvania's longest in healthcare. We were instrumental in passing Act 102, banning mandatory overtime for healthcare workers, and negotiate contracts with competitive pay, such as over $65 per hour base for experienced nurses at facilities like Temple, ensuring fair compensation and respect.

Fighting for Healthcare Today

Today, we represent more than 11,000 members and tackle key challenges like chronic short staffing, private equity's profit focus in healthcare, and rising workplace violence post-pandemic. By building a community of dedicated professionals, we influence policy, organize new units, and push for a patient-centered system over profits. Join us to strengthen healthcare equity in Pennsylvania.
