Technical professionals at Butler Memorial Hospital have approved a new labor contract, the hospital has announced.
The medical technicians are represented by the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals.
A hospital news release Friday did not list the margin by which the new contract was approved or give details on what it contains.
The hospital said the agreement “strengthens staffing stability and reinforces Butler Memorial Hospital’s
commitment to patient safety, a respectful workplace, and continued investment in services patients rely on close to home.”
The union and hospital announced Wednesday that they had reached a tentative labor agreement.
The union represents 235 surgical techs, respiratory therapists and others who had voted May 8 to give Butler’s corporate parent, Independence Health System, the required 10-day notice for a planned five-day walkout starting Tuesday.
“We are proud that through hard conversations, persistence and a shared commitment to our patients and community, we were able to come to an agreement together,” hospital respiratory therapist Monica Johnson said in a prepared statement Wednesday after the tentative agreement was reached.
Independence Health System includes five hospitals in three Western Pennsylvania counties that are being merged with WVU Health in Morgantown.
