The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals has officially presented a 10-day strike notice to temple health as they continue to negotiate for a new contract.
Carlos Aviles who is the president of the Temple University Allied Health Professionals says the union has been trying to agree on a contract that will allow the hospital to retain people. Aviles added that the union have been asking for more staffing, better benefits, and enhanced safety measures.
Aviles stated,
It’s hard enough to come in here and save lives and do what we have to do on the frontline, it’s another thing to have to have your personal life in danger just walking to and from the hospital.
Temple Health released a statement
We are disappointed but not surprised that PASNAP has provided a 10-day strike notice. Whether PASNAP strikes or not, we have contingency plans in place to continue to provide our patients and community with uninterrupted, safe, high-quality care.
Both sides will continue to meet in effort to reach an agreement before the October 6th deadline.
We use our collective strength to advocate for things like safe staffing, universal access to healthcare, and prevention of harassment and violence against healthcare workers. Our advocacy was instrumental in passing Act 102, Pennsylvania's ban on mandatory overtime for healthcare workers.
